Our products can be found in:

  • Federal correctional institutions in Canada and the United States - Apex figured significantly in the development of the federally (Canadian) approved Pivot door assembly
  • County, State, and Provincial jails throughout North America and abroad
  • We are nationally approved to manufacture and supply the Royal Canadian Mounted Police cell door assemblies

Our detention, cell and bullet resistant doors can be utilized in all types of applications:

  • Minimum to maximum penitentiaries
  • Police stations
  • County jails
  • Courthouses
  • Airports
  • Ports
  • Railway stations
  • Border crossings
  • University and college campuses
  • The exterior openings of office buildings
  • Residential properties

Apex has been tested and certified to meet the ANSI/NAAMM 863-04 Testing requirements, as per the ASTM F1450-05 Testing requirements, which includes the following tests:

  • Static load
  • Door edge crush test
  • Impact
  • Load test
  • Rack test
  • Removable glass stop test

Q: Why chose a NAAMM tested door over a standard steel door?

A: The NAAMM testing is a practical testing procedure that determines how the door and frame assembly should be constructed to resist attack and abuse set in a prison atmosphere, to prevent the inmates from getting out, but would also apply to vandals attempting to break in to your building. Due diligence would dictate that the best possible door should be installed to suit the environment the door is exposed to. The right door assembly could be the difference between being vandalized and a failed attempt.

Q: Where would you need this type of door?

A: Correctional institutes, police stations, etc, but also on perimeter doors to drug stores, gun shops, banks, jewellery stores, airports, border crossings, office complexes, even residential entrances and safe rooms.

Technical description:

Detention grade doors and frames are traditionally 2" (50mm) thick doors; 14 or 12 ga steel stiffened, continuously welded, flush end channels both top and bottom doors prepped for heavy duty locking mechanism. 12ga is the traditional frame thickness, but this can easily be increased or decreased to meet your requirements (10ga for the extreme conditions, or 14ga for minimum security levels).

Our frame corner joints are all continuously welded.

Apex can also construct detention grade openings using stainless steel for high corrosive or sanitary areas such as shower and kitchen facilities.

Apex will also manufacture any size or type door to match your existing frames or hardware conditions (1 3/4", or 2 1/4", etc).
